Doug Mendel Cambodian Relief FundDoug is a former volunteer firefighter for Lake Dillon Fire & Rescue in Colorado, USA who visited Cambodia and fell in love with the country and people. Doug started out bringing clothing and stuffed animals, pencils and books for the children. Later, he befriended a firefighter in Sihanoukville and was shocked at the lack of firefighting basic equipment: they would fight fires wearing flip-flops and t-shirts and didn't have basic radios or training materials. Subsequently Doug has brought back many donations of equipment such as fire-coats and boots, gloves and helmets, even resourced fire trucks.
Doug has created a registered charity, the Douglas Mendel Cambodian Relief Fund, which assists up to 6 fire stations and 2 national parks around Cambodia as well as 2 organizations that help disadvantaged street children and disadvantaged Cambodians. The fund is non-profit - 100% donations go directly to purchasing and transporting goods for the Cambodian people. If you would like more information or for donations contact Angela at Blissful Guesthouse or Doug via his website www.dougmendel.com
