Volunteer Services Overseas (VSO)

The Education Sector in Cambodia is changing a lot. Schools become Child Friendly schools, learning methods become more child centered, more children stay longer in school (basic education from grade 1 to 9) and more students especially girls, disabled and disadvantaged children are encouraged to go to school.

In order to accomplish these changes teachers, school directors and the supporting Educational Organizations are undergoing huge adaptations, which VSO supports. In Kampot province a team of five VSO volunteers are working in education in different districts. They support model child friendly schools and advise and train the teachers, and the Provincial Teacher Trainings Center about child friendly schools and education. VSO helps building relationships between schools and community and tries to reduce dropout and repetition rates. Education Organizations are also advised about management. Cambodian employees assist the volunteers with the work and translations. Kampot office is in the building of the Provincial office of Education, Youth and Sport, near the Viet Nam Cambodia Friendship Monument.
